The Bottom Line,  Part 9

Leadership

By Louie Marsh, 8-11-2019

5 slides to open – last one about bad followers.

  1. I) The Truth About Leadership:

1) Without God’s STANDARDS Leadership & Government is Weakened.

12  It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness. Proverbs 16:12 (ESV)

2) PRIVATE Acts Have Public Consequences.

4  It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to take strong drink, 5  lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted. Proverbs 31:4-5 (ESV)

3) All Leadership Is Based On TRUST.

28  Steadfast love and faithfulness preserve the king, and by steadfast love his throne is upheld. Proverbs 20:28 (ESV)

12  If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked. Proverbs 29:12 (ESV)

4) The LOVE OF MONEY Destroys Justice & Leadership.

4  By justice a king gives a country stability, but one who is greedy for bribes tears it down. Proverbs 29:4 (NIV)

5) All true leaders are SERVANTS.

4  …He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5  Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6  He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7  Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8  Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9  Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” John 13:4-9 (ESV)

  1. II) The Truth About Followers:

1) We Should PRAY For All Aspects of Our Leaders Lives.

1  I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV)

2) We Are To COOPERATE With Them.

1  Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2  Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. Romans 13:1-2 (ESV)

13  Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14  or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15  For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16  Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:13-16 (ESV)

3) We Must PUT GOD Above & Beyond Anyone Else.

17  Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at him. Mark 12:17 (ESV)

27  And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28  saying, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” 29  But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men. Acts 5:27-29 (ESV)

The Bottom Line:

Leadership Should Promote What Is GODLY AND BEST & We Should Support Them Unless They BETRAY OUR TRUST.
