Pursuing Sex #7

How to Understand Sex Wisely

By Louie Marsh, 9-6-2020

1) Why is God so HUNG UP on sex?

1  My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2  keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3  bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4  Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, 5  to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words. Proverbs 7:1-5 (ESV)

Show four slides – last one “All love is equal.”

Love is love people say. Most of them don’t mean it. Is it okay for me to be in love with your 8 year old daughter? How about your beautiful dog? All love is love? NO it’s not!

  • He’s not, we are. He knows what we don’t – sex is

4  Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:4 (ESV)

5  … and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you. Isaiah 62:5b (ESV)

7  Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8  it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. Revelation 19:7-8 (ESV)

2) Like sin, wisdom is all around me, I must PURSUE IT.

3  beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud: 4  “To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man. 5  O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. 6  Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, 7  for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. Proverbs 8:3-7 (ESV)

5  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5 (ESV)

14  I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength. 15  By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just; 16  by me princes rule, and nobles, all who govern justly. 17  I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me. Proverbs 8:14-17 (ESV)

3) Real wisdom is far more PROFITABLE than gold.

10  Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, 11  for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11 (ESV)

9  the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. 10  More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Psalm 19:9-10 (ESV)

4) True wisdom comes from God ALONE.

22  “The LORD possessed me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. 23  Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. Proverbs 8:22-23 (ESV)

15  This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16  For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17  But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. James 3:15-17 (ESV)

4) To be wise I must engage with Scripture & Meditation DAILY.

32  “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. 33  Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. 34  Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. 35  For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, 36  but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:32-36 (ESV)
